Creative canvas collages and more...
As one of the most popular suppliers of high-quality canvas prints, we see every kind of image from family portraits to landscapes and abstract pictures come through our email or file transfer system. In our blog posts we try to share some ideas and inspiration that will encourage you to think a little outside the box before purchasing your canvases. With a little imagination and a tiny bit of Photoshop skill, it’s possible to create something really special for your wall.
Collages
Although we have many photographers and artists amongst our customers, we’re also aware that many of you have only very limited Photoshop skills, but that doesn’t mean you can’t create digital collages with relative ease. All that is required is a large blank file in Photoshop, a selection of images, and a very basic understanding of layers.
In a future blog post we plan to show you how we use layers, but in the meantime, a quick Google search will bring up dozens of tutorials on the subject. But how do you select your images? Well, classically, a collage is used to create a themed piece to be printed quite large – maybe a collection of photos of family, a particular holiday or event, a birthday or party, or even your pets. There are, however, other ways to use this technique…
Going abstract
In a recent post, we talked about creating a triptych of abstract images from stock photos or by playing around in Photoshop yourself. This is a great way to build a really interesting abstract collage, and can look great as a conversation piece on your wall.
When one canvas isn’t enough
Another exciting way to use canvases to create something spectacular for your wall is to split an image into three and print on separate canvases. This kind of triptych has been used for years to add interest to an image, but we recommend taking this to a whole other level.
With our 4”x4” canvases available for less than £9 each and our ‘3 for 2’ offer you can create a tiled effect on your wall with a large number of images. Be creative and use them to build abstract geometric shapes, freeform expressionist designs, or even just split up your favourite picture in the same way as a landscape, but into smaller images.
We guarantee that this style will look wonderful as a centre piece on a plain wall, and will be a conversation starter for years to come.
