Displaying And Caring For Your Canvases

Selecting the images that you want printed onto canvas can take a real investment of time and be a hard decision. Once you've settled on the photo or photos that you want printing, you'll need to decide where to hang them and make sure that you look after them so that you and your family can enjoy them for many years to come.

We strive to make the best quality prints we can and in this article we’ll talk about how you can care for your canvas prints and your options for hanging them too.

How should I hang my canvas prints?

One of the great things about having a photo printed onto canvas, rather than displaying them in a heavy frame, is that they are very lightweight and can be safely hung without needing to use heavy duty, robust fixtures and fittings. Because our canvas prints don't weigh very much, you can simply stick a screw or two in the wall and rest the inside of the frame on top of them. This provides a really nice effect, because a picture will sit flush to the wall, providing a seamless finish. Alternatively, you can hang your print with string run through eyelets screwed into the back of the frame if you’re happy for the print to sit out slightly from the wall.

Where can I hang my canvas?

Good question! We like to think that there are no limits to where you can hang your canvas, because the quality of the materials and inks used mean that the prints are incredibly durable and resistant to fading or other environmental damage. You can even hang your canvas in potentially damp conditions such as an external summer house or a bathroom. However, to ensure that the wooden frame doesn't warp over time, it’s best to place your print somewhere where it won't come into direct contact with water - such as just above the bath where it may be subject to splashes.

Hanging your canvas in direct sunlight is fine too – the inks we use are fade-resistant, so even if you place your print opposite a bright window, the quality will continue to shine through for decades!

How about cleaning my canvas?

No matter how house-proud you are, static services can gather soon get a little grubby. Therefore it's a good idea to use a feather duster or a soft piece of cloth to gently flick off any dust from the print face itself or the frame edges. It's important that you don't use any kind of chemicals, cleaning products or solvents on your print, and wet clothes should also be avoided. Some people use their Hoover attachments to give their canvases the once over, so you could try this when you're vacuuming the room too to stop dust and dirt building up over time.
