From 24th September 2011 Manchester Art Gallery will be displaying one of the first major exhibitions from the work of Ford Madox Brown. This is the first major exhibition of his work since 1964.

Born 16th April 1821, Ford Madox Brown was an English painter of moral and historical subjects, with his most memorable work being for his distinctively graphic and in most cases Hogarthian version of the Pre-Raphaelite style. One of his most famous pieces of art was “The Last of England” which was originally sold in 1859 for 325 Guineas (approx. £25,000 today). The Scene depicts a pair of emigrants as they sail away on a ship from England forever.

The Exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery has been split into 10 different themes, starting with his family life and moves through his career as an artist, and shows his radical change of direction, with paintings of landscapes, portraits and scenes of Victorian life. The exhibition also covers the period in which Brown spent at the Town Hall in Manchester.

Artists like Brown have been painting on canvas for many years and it is still today one of the best mediums for artists to display their work. Now the modern day sees many artists turning to the digital form and having their works completed as canvas prints which have been digitally replicated. Yourimage2canvas specialise in turning everyday photos to canvas and also turn many artists work into stunning canvas prints.
