Choosing the right photos for your canvas prints

If you’re thinking of turning old photos into quality canvas prints, then firstly, you’re going to need to dig out that old shoebox of printed images and start sifting through them to find you favourites. It may be that you want an image of each generation, or a collection of family photos that span several decades so you can see how you’ve all grown and changed.

Think about composition and how those images will look when displayed on a wall – are the subjects all looking at the camera? Or is it an action shot you’re after, showing your loved ones engaged in some kind of fun activity?

Also, while it may seem much easier to transfer your images via email, if you’re using old photos rather than digital files and don’t have a decent scanner at home, you can always pop the original in the post – we’re always happy to receive your images in this way and will return it back to you once we’ve printed it on canvas.

Using old, damaged or scratched photos for canvas prints

While it’s important to select the right photos, don’t discard any favourites just because they’re looking a bit tatty. Digital retouching is commonplace now, but there are still plenty of ways to improve the quality of old photos to make then suitable for printing on canvas.

We can remove scratches, tidy up marks, even out faded areas and even crop your images in order to ensure the photos is framed perfectly on the canvas and remove those distracting imperfections.

So don’t worry if the old photos you’re turning into canvas prints are not great quality, as we’ll do everything we can to improve them!

Ensuring you get genuinely good quality canvas prints

While you might think all canvas printing services are the same, the quality of the print will very much depend on the quality of the canvas itself, the printing equipment and the inks used. Inferior canvas and poor quality inks can lead to fading and lack of sharpness – and if you’ve had an old photo touched up to remove these issues, you certainly don’t want the final print to revert the image back the original state!

We strongly advise that if you’re planning on turning your old photos into canvas prints that you check out reviews and feedback for the company you’re thinking of using - social media can be a great place to look too - so that you can be sure that their canvas prints are of the quality they claim.
