Winter Scene Canvas Print Ideas

Shooting outdoos in the cold weather can get some great winter photography

Winter Scene Canvas Print Ideas

The winter is a wonderful opportunity to take some picturesque images, and this week we’re going to share our favourite seasonal canvas print and picture frame ideas, so wrap up and get ready to head out into the cold.

We’re going to encourage you to leave the cosy warmth of your sofa and find some wintery scenes that we’re sure will make you feel like it was worth the effort... despite the red nose!

Wintery print ideas with water

The warmer months are all about vibrancy, colour and fun, whereas winter is the time for atmosphere and minimalism. Visit your local lakes and ponds during a cold snap and you’ll have the perfect opportunity to shoot some eerie winter scenes, like these:

Look for completely still days when the weather is starting to warm slightly because this will cover the water with mist and create a stunning spooky atmosphere.

The beauty of winter is that the golden hour is much earlier in the day, so don’t forget to take advantage of it – especially if you get a colourful sunset reflecting in the water!

Try some long exposure running water shots – they work great against a fresh covering of snow on the bank and trees.

You don’t need snow

Yes, snow is brilliant for photography and can give you some lovely canvas print ideas, but a hard frost can be just as beautiful in the right light.

Shoot landscapes when the sun is low in the sky and the shadows are raking across the land, and the frost will twinkle like stars and create some amazing images... plus it’s much easier to walk in frost rather than snow when you're loaded with photography gear!

But snow is great...

Fresh snow feels magical whatever age you are, so we think it’s worth wrapping up warm and getting out there before anyone disturbs it. This is your opportunity to try some minimalist landscapes – perhaps with a single focal point like a tree on a hill, a row of trees, or even telegraph poles. If someone beats you to your chosen spot and leaves a trail of footprints you have three options: go somewhere else, Photoshop them out, or make a feature of them! Part of being a photographer is thinking on your feet, so don’t be afraid to take some shots of the footprints... or even make your own!

We love winter and hope that these simple canvas print ideas will inspire you to charge up your batteries, fill up a flask and head out for some stunning seasonal photography.
