We know that Christmas is still a few weeks away, but time just whizzes by and before you know it the annual “What are we going to buy Auntie Betty?!” panic will set in.

Don’t worry though because Your Image 2 Canvas is here to save the day! What would your relatives love more than a quirky Christmas canvas of your little ones to cheer them up? That’s right, absolutely nothing!

This is a great opportunity to put into practice some of the skills we’ve been talking about in our blog this year. If you’ve followed our various posts on home studio photography, you’ll be well equipped to take some great images. We recommend a nice clean background, so either invest in a colourful roll of background paper or shoot on white seamless – either will look fantastic for this.

This kind of shoot is all about ramping the fun factor to eleven and adding a healthy dose of cheese, so push the boat out with your prop choices. The following will all look so cute that your family will be delighted:

·         Santa outfits

·         Santa’s little helper outfits

·         Reindeer antlers

·         Snowman outfits

·         Boxes wrapped up as presents with your kids inside

·         Your kids decorating the Christmas tree

·         Huge Christmas cards with holes cut out for your kids to poke their heads through

·         Close up shots of your kids making Christmas cards

The possibilities are almost endless!

Rather than buying a box of generic Christmas cards, consider using some of the great shots you take to create your own bespoke cards for your nearest and dearest. Printing up a batch order can be surprisingly reasonable and there’s no reason why you can’t reuse any leftover ones next year.

However, we think with a little bit of work adding text to an image in Photoshop you could create some tiny 5x7 canvas Christmas cards for the really special people in your life. After all, who wouldn’t love to receive a canvas as a Christmas card? Now that’s classy!

Like we said at the beginning of this post, Christmas will be here before you know it, so start planning your shoot as soon as possible – or even just grab your camera phone and take some snaps that way if you’re not a photographer in the making!
