Selecting The Most Suitable Canvas Print Sizes

Deciding on artwork for your home or workspace presents you with several challenges, but one that you simply have to get right is choosing the most suitable canvas print sizes because, in this case, size really does matter!

Don’t worry, though, because we’re here with our handy guide to help ensure that your canvas prints do exactly what you want them to do – after all, we want you to be delighted with them!

Using a canvas print as a statement piece

It may seem obvious, but different images work better on different canvas print sizes, and it can be a bit tricky to figure out which is which! We love to print huge canvases to be used as statement pieces, but we recommend visiting museums and art galleries to get a feel for what kind of images work well printed really big.

Once you’re sure that you want to max out your canvas print, you have to understand how it will fit in the space. A canvas with a long side of around five feet will look fantastic as a standalone statement on a big blank wall, but it’ll look ridiculous hanging in the bathroom. Exercise a little common sense and recognise that anything too big will dominate the space. To this end, we think natural scenes work best printed large because we’re used to seeing nature up close and all around us, whereas a self-portrait can look a little domineering!

Unusual canvas print shapes

Many modern consumer cameras have excellent panoramic stitching settings, and this process is both pleasing to play with and can produce outstanding results. The problem is that we tend to leave these great shots on our hard drives rather than taking a risk and printing them for the wall – after all, where do you put it?

Fortunately, there’s a perfect place in your living room for a panoramic print! For example, a 30” x 12” or 40” x 20” panorama looks brilliant hung over a mantelpiece or above your headboard in your bedroom, so maybe it’s time to dig out those photo files of cityscapes or long, sweeping vistas of the sea and send them over to us!

Using different sizes to fill space on a photo wall

We’ve said it before, but we love a photo wall, and the absolute best way to build one is with a couple of large prints surrounded by smaller ones in more unusual sizes and shapes. If you have a good eye for design, it’s perfectly okay to build the wall slowly and randomly, but we think it’s best to plan it beforehand with cut out pieces of paper that you can scale up for your actual prints. This way you can try out different configurations and print sizes before using our custom canvas builder to create your wall.

Choosing the best canvas print sizes for your living spaces doesn’t have to be a headache, and if you show some common sense and follow our advice your walls will soon be looking spectacular!
