Inches and centimetres: formulas
Centimetres = inches × 2.54
Inches = centimetres ÷ 2.54
Worked examples
A 12-inch ruler is 12 × 2.54 = 30.48 cm. For 5¾ inches, use 5.75 × 2.54 = 14.605 cm.

Which measurement does this use?
The international inch is exactly 2.54 centimetres. Centimetres are written cm; centimetre and centimeter mean the same unit. Converting a length does not change what is being measured: a screen diagonal remains a diagonal, not its width.
How do I convert a fraction of an inch?
Enter 1/2 or ½ for half an inch. One half inch equals 1.27 cm. For feet and inches, type “5 ft 8 in to cm”; the result is 172.72 cm.
