The illustrations in this guide are imagined styling examples, not photographs of customer orders or tests of print quality.
A photo poster is not automatically lower quality than a photo print. Suppliers use those names differently. Compare the actual paper, surface finish, image preparation, size and intended display instead of treating “poster” as a quality grade.
You might want a favourite photograph for a frame, but see one service offering photo prints and another offering posters. The useful next step is to find out what will actually arrive.
Start with the material and finish
YI2C photo posters are printed on smooth, pure-white 230gsm matte paper and supplied unframed. The smooth surface suits photographs, illustrations and lettering without the visible weave of canvas.
Another provider may use “photo print” for a different paper or glossy, satin or lustre surface. Those differences can change how the image looks and reflects light. Read that provider’s specification; the name alone does not tell you the process or finish.
Paper weight is one useful detail, but a heavier sheet is not automatically sharper or more colour accurate. Our poster-quality guide explains what to compare.

The same file still needs the right crop
An attractive surface cannot make a poor crop work. A 3:2 photograph fills a differently shaped A-series sheet only by trimming some of the image or adding space around it. Check heads, feet, signatures and writing at the edges.
If you want the whole picture, choose a matching shape, a deliberate border or another suitable layout. Keep the paper size separate from the visible image area. See preparing a custom-size poster for a worked example.
Image quality matters whichever name is used
Use the best available original and inspect the important subject detail. A file saved from a message may differ from the camera image. A large MB figure or a “300 DPI” label does not guarantee that a face is sharp.
Small sources can sometimes be improved or used at a more suitable size. If your only photograph is difficult, ask about that file rather than assuming the choice of paper will solve it. YI2C prepares artwork individually and can advise before you commit to a large enlargement.
Compare the complete framed display
A poster price and a framed-print price describe different purchases. Allow for the frame, any mount, glazing and suitable hanging arrangement you want to add. A frame’s outside dimensions are larger than its paper insert size.
Matte paper also does not remove reflections from glass or acrylic placed in front of it. Check the whole frame and the light on the intended wall. An unglazed canvas gives a different appearance again; use our matte poster versus canvas guide if you are deciding between those formats.

What should you ask before ordering?
- What exact paper and surface finish will I receive?
- Does the price include a frame or just the print?
- What are the sheet dimensions, and is a border included inside them?
- How is the photo fitted to that shape?
- Can somebody assess an uncertain file before printing?
- What is the final delivered price for the size and options I selected?
Those answers make a comparison useful. A photograph does not need a more impressive product name; it needs a suitable source, considered preparation and a finish you enjoy seeing.
Order the format that suits your photograph
For a smooth image in a frame of your own, explore YI2C photo posters. For a larger picture, use the A1/A0 photo-poster guide. If your frame is already waiting, measure its paper space and mount opening before choosing the final sheet.
Quick answers
Is a poster only suitable for graphics or advertising?
No. A photographic poster can display a family, pet, landscape or other photograph. The file and surface determine the useful result.
Does 230gsm mean the poster is printed on card?
GSM measures weight per square metre. YI2C describes this product as matte paper; the number alone does not make it a rigid board or establish its finish.
Is gloss always better for photographs?
No. Surface preference, the image, framing and room light all matter. Choose the appearance you want and check the supplier’s actual specification.
