Craft Project: Adding Mosaics To Canvas Prints

If you’re looking for some unique ways to spice up your interior design art projects or family gifts, we think that adding mosaics to canvas prints is an awesome way to add some texture and interest to our favourite medium.

Before deciding which prints to choose, it’s probably a good idea to practice your mosaic skills on an old or cheap canvas. If you’re feeling brave, you could order a small canvas print from us to practice on – you never know, it might turn out that you’re a natural!  

But what prints work best? That really depends on whether you’re using the mosaics to add some texture and interest to the image, or using the print as a blueprint for a full mosaic. If you’re planning on improving an already awesome image, you want something like a landscape that has large areas of colour – maybe using a range of green tiles to mosaic some trees and grassed areas. 

If you’re going all in with the mosaic idea and planning to cover the whole canvas, it’s a good idea to go on a photowalk and look for specific images that’ll work well – we recommend portraits of trees and flowers, or, now it’s autumn, a more ambitious and abstract picture of the amazing colours this time of year brings.

Once you’ve decided on your image you need to find some craft tiles. Fortunately, eBay has loads on offer, and you’ll find plastic, polished ceramics, rough glass, acrylic, etc in all shapes and sizes, so let your imagination go wild!

Adding mosaics to canvas prints is easy if you have the correct glue, and we recommend good quality clear PVA glue because it’s non-toxic and dries quickly –but not too quickly, just in case you make a mistake.
